Relevant learning and mental resilience – a business-focused university graduates people who change the world
-Savonia is proven to be the best place to work in Finland. It’s also an excellent place to become the best place to study,” says Rector Mervi Vidgrén, as the university celebrates its graduates at the Iisalmi campus on Wednesday 22 May and at the Microkatu campus in Kuopio on Thursday 23 May.
The best place to study is at the heart of Savonia’s strategy – Student feedback from last year shows that Savonia’s degree programmes have risen to the top of the national rankings. Savonia’s agrology education is the best in Finland in a comparison of all degree programmes. As many as nine of Savonia’s degree programmes are ranked first in their respective fields.
The issue of compulsory attendance has been the subject of much debate in the media. Mervi Vidgrén says that Savonia’s policy is clear and based on how best to develop competences that are relevant to working life. Savonia’s value proposition in education is that we make learning meaningful together – a strong promise, but also a value that guides our teachers.
Community is seen as important and also supports student well-being.
Savonian degrees are good for employment
Savonia is and wants to be an even more strongly working life-oriented higher education institution. This is what Savonia is developing together with eight other European universities in the Higher Education Alliance.- Students come to Savonia to study because they want a practical university degree that is highly employable. The employment rate of Savonia graduates is around 90%. It is also important for us that students find jobs in the region: now 50% of our students come from North Savo and about 60% stay here to work when they graduate.
Savonia has been building its own profile in terms of overall security over the long term. The research areas of food system, water safety, well-being, bioeconomy, circular economy, and machine and energy are at the core of the overall safety profile. – The newest research area is sustainable society, which takes into account the challenges of climate change, but also the opportunities for business renewal and growth. There is also the issue of mental resilience to crisis, which is becoming an increasingly important topic of discussion in Finland.
-This week we celebrate your degrees, but increasingly the focus is also shifting to developing the skills of our staff at work. It’s part of what Savonia does. This week also sees the graduation of students from YAMK degree programmes who are transforming the world of work through their studies. In addition, companies buy training for their staff from Savonia, so welcome to become a student of continuous learning!
