An Erasmus+ Staff exchange took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from September 6 to September 19, 2024. The purpose of the exchange was to initiate development work related to professional internships in the field of social services between Savonia University of Applied Sciences and HNUE (Hanoi National University of Education). The goal of this development project was to start 360-degree filming of internship places.
360° filming differs from traditional photography in that it provides the viewer with a single point from which to look around in every direction. 360° images can be viewed in different ways depending on the devices and software available. For example, you can view the images using VR glasses, on a smartphone, or in many cases move around the image by moving your phone in front of you. You can also navigate the image using your finger or a mouse. Additionally, 360° images often contain hotspots where you can find more information in the form of audio or video files.
We carried out the filming during the exchange in collaboration with HNUE. Students studying education administration came up with ideas and produced part of the filmed material as part of their own studies. They created short videos on topics such as how inclusion is implemented in Vietnamese schools, what the Vietnamese education system is like, how children with special needs are supported, and what kind of support is available for students coming to Vietnam for an exchange.
The filming was successful, despite challenging weather conditions during the exchange. Our visit coincided with the worst storm Vietnam had experienced in 30 years, Typhoon Yagi. A large number of people were left homeless, and at times the roads were flooded to the point where we had to wade through water.
Our intention is to continue the development work and create a Moodle learning environment for Savonia students going on international exchange to Vietnam. This will make it easier to prepare for the upcoming professional internship and familiarize students with Vietnamese culture even before the exchange. Through the 360° images, internationalization at home will also be possible for all Savonia students.
