Alumni Greetings: “Aim High and Believe in Yourself”

Name?

Fabio Mahamud

What did you study at Savonia?

I studied Mechanical Engineering at Savonia UAS. My time there was never boring: there was always something new to learn, something to figure out, or a challenge to tackle. Every day brought a fresh surprise.

What is your current profession?

Currently, I am working as an Engineer at FinVector Oy.

What was your biggest challenge during your studies, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge was definitely balancing work and school. It wasn’t easy to keep up with everything, so I had to stick to a routine and make sure I stayed on top of deadlines. It was tough, but it taught me how to manage my time and get things done even when things got crazy. Not to mention the crazy winter and snow, but well, you get used to it eventually.

What is the most important skill you have learned during your higher education studies?

The best thing I learned was how to be flexible and adapt. Things happen, life happens. Things don’t always go as planned, and being able to think on your feet when stuff doesn’t work out is super important.

What is your goal now that you have graduated? What are your future aspirations?

Now that I’ve graduated, I’m looking forward to taking a break and having some fun—maybe a vacation to recharge before jumping back to work. Long-term goals? I’m hoping to be successful and, yeah, a bit rich too.

Any good tips for future students?

If you’re a student right now, or about to start, my advice is simple: take chances. Be proactive, grab opportunities, and take on challenges even if they scare you a little. And network, network, network! You never know where a connection might lead. Aim high and believe in yourself. You’ve got more potential than you realize!
