Degree students in Kuopio and Varkaus

Savonia degree students in Kuopio can get basic health care services from the Finnish Student Health Care system (FSHS / YTHS). The services of the FSHS include e.g. health appointments and examinations, laboratory examinations, imaging examinations, birth control and sexual health guidance and the prevention of infectious diseases (e.g. vaccinations), as well as oral health. FSHS’s services are available for all degree students on Savonia’s campuses, including Iisalmi and Varkaus.

It’s recommended that you bring your vaccination certificate to Finland with you.

Information for new students

Pay the FSHS fee

All present degree students from outside EU/EEA, Switzerland and UK (Bachelor and Master) must pay the FSHS healthcare fee.

More information on the principles of the payment (who should pay etc).

The healthcare fee in 2024 is 73,60 € per study year. The fee must be paid in two installments of 36,80 € each.

Due date is determined based on your enrollment as present. In Savonia the due date is

  • 30.9. for autumn semester
  • 31.1. for spring semester

Payment instructions

NB! You will not be sent an invoice, but you have to make the payment yourself. Exchange students do not need to pay this fee and they are not eligible to utilize the services of FSHS.

You do not have to pay the healthcare fee if you have social security coverage from another EU/EEA country or from Switzerland or the United Kingdom. See the section titled How should I proceed if I have social security coverage in another EU/EEA country or in Switzerland or the United Kingdom?

FSHS is not aimed at

  • tailor-made education students

Health care for exchange students

Health care and oral health care services for exchange students are provided by the cities of Kuopio, Iisalmi and Varkaus. Visits to the nurse at city health care centers are free of charge, as well as preventive services such as birth control guidance and health examinations. Other services, such as visits to the doctor, are subject to a fee. More info at student intranet Reppu.
