Degree Programme in Public Health Nurse
This curriculum is a translation of the curriculum of the Finnish degree program.
Competence Standards
In nursing education, the competence goal is that the graduating public health nurse / nurse has extensive and strong competence in clinical nursing, application, development and evaluation of knowledge, and readiness for continuous learning. The competence acquired during the training corresponds to the competence level descriptions according to the European Qualification Framework (EQF) and the national level 6.
A public health nurse is an expert in nursing and especially in public health nursing, health promotion and public health at different stages of life. The knowledge base of nursing work is in nursing, public health and other health sciences and is complemented by other disciplines. The graduating publich health nurse must have strong basic clinical knowledge and skills and the competence must be evidence-based. The perspective of nursing is health promotion, which means activities that prevent disease, build health, and support and create health conditions.
The training of nurses includes the professional areas of expertise of nurses, the areas of expertise of general nurses and the common areas of expertise of universities of applied sciences, which complement each other.
