I’ve always been into taking stuff apart and putting them back together
Fabio’s story
Hey folks, Fabio here, ready to spill the tea about my adventure at Savonia University of Applied Sciences!
Back in 2020 when world was upside down with lockdowns and whatnot, I jumped headfirst into mechanical engineering because, well, I’ve always been into taking stuff apart and putting them back together (sometimes even correctly!) trying to figure out how it works. Savonia seemed like the perfect place to turn that hobby into a career.
Adjusting to life in Finland was a bit of a challenge. Coming from the happening city of Dhaka the quiet environment was a total switch-up. And don’t even get me started on the language – it was like nothing I’d ever heard before. Thank goodness for Google Translate!
Oh, and let’s not forget about the weather. I swear, I’ve never experienced cold like that before. My survival tip? Layer up like your life depends on it!
Now, let’s talk curriculum. In addition to the core subjects such as Mathematics and Physics, what truly piqued my interest were the hands-on courses, notably 3D modelling. These practical classes provided invaluable insight and skills that complemented the theoretical aspects of my education.
Moreover, the two industrial management projects offered a unique opportunity to collaborate with local companies, allowing us to apply our theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts. These projects not only enhanced our understanding of industrial operations but also provided invaluable experience in working with industry professionals.
Furthermore, the requirement for practical trainings, can be simply said as internships, added another layer of practicality to our education. These placements in companies were essential for bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.
Overall, the combination of theoretical learning and practical application at Savonia University of Applied Sciences has equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the field of mechanical engineering.
Also, there are amazing opportunities to go abroad for exchange programmes, be it for a whole semester or just for a week I opted for short and intensive exchange programmes to Germany and Slovenia, and let me tell you, they were unforgettable experiences.
As I get ready to graduate, I’m stuck at a bit of a crossroads. I’ve been working as an engineer in a local company, thanks to the connections I made during my time at Savonia. Now, I’m torn between two paths: should I dive into advanced studies or rack up more experience in the field before hitting the books again?
Either way, I know I’ve got a solid foundation from my time at Savonia. Those years taught me a ton, and I’m feeling pretty confident that whatever I decide, I’ll be ready to tackle it head-on.
And to all you future students out there, here’s my little advice: grab every opportunity that comes your way, tackle challenges head-on, and never be afraid to try something different. Who knows? You might just stumble upon your own hidden passion or interest!
