Description | Campus development in Savilahti, Kuopio, is a top priority regional investment in Pohjois-Savo region. Five group of major innovation chain actors are collected and glued together as a campus in a unique way. Its size and the composition of actors make it unique in national scale and notable even in international frame of reference. The main actors in campus are two universities with different nature (scientific and applied), very multidiciplinary vocational school, number of specialized research institutes (GTK, THL, TTL, EVIRA, university hospital) and on the top over 200 private enterprices. Research, development and education in the K5-campus cover all the smart specialization development priorities defined for Pohjois-Savo region. Savonia and SAKKY, as investors of new elements in campus, will create a strong physical platform for regional innovation alliance through their campus design and investments. This research project carries out extensive cocreation of design specifications crucial for unique open campus development, together with all involved parties. Working life oriented education as well as networked research, development and innovation activities in the campus ensures development of professional abilities of students graduating in campus. This improves notably the availability of the work force in the region.
