DescriptionTypical environment sampling currently relies on traditional manual sampling and monitoring methods restricting physical reachability in remote areas due to difficult terrain, weather conditions, and logistic challenges. AUTONOMIC will introduce a paradigm shift by implementing an AI-empowered robotic system for autonomous, periodic environmental monitoring of snow, water, and soil, promoting sustainable development in northern regions, fostering cross-border collaboration and innovation between Sweden and Finland. The project will study and demonstrate technologies for sampling and detection of industry-related and climate change-related compounds and pollutants, towards enhancing our understanding of climate change acceleration in Arctic regions. AUTONOMIC will demonstrate its technologies in the run-off water of the Tornio River into the Baltic Sea, melting snow, and storm water, enriching understanding of biodiversity loss, sea acidification, snowmelt pace, and water eutrophication.
