DescriptionFoodLoops targets school kitchens, farmers and municipalities to address the following recommendations from "Joint BSR Strategy for Municipal Waste", RECO Baltic 21 Tech project (Interreg BSR 2007-2013):

- "Prioritise waste separation at source": FoodLoops works with caterers and educators to design initiatives that encourage better biowaste separation in school canteens and school kitchens. School kitchens have large potential to be multipliers through their role in educating and engaging pupils who can apply this knowledge at home.
- "Support development of demand and markets for recyclable materials and compost": FoodLoops works with farmers associations and urban gardeners to increase demand for biowaste-based fertilizers.

- "Role of all stakeholders to effectively engage consumers in sorting": FoodLoops' target groups (represented in the partnership) have the experience in engaging consumers and the executive mandate to implement improved sorting models.

- "All key stakeholders must be involved in waste governance, which enables consensus building and facilitates acceptance, creates a sense of problem ownership and allows potential conflicts to be addressed": FoodLoops brings relevant stakeholders together to co-create local cooperation models.

There is a need to review and optimise food value chains by strengthening the farmers´ position (- 'Baltic Sea Food', IBSR 2014-2020 project). FoodLoops supports shortening the food value chain, thus empowering local economic actors.
