DescriptionThe aim of the project is to advance well-being at work of the working-age professionals in
early childhood education, nursing, cleaning and municipal central kitchen sectors in Pohjois-Savo region in Finland. In addition, the aim is to promote better balance between work and freetime for employees among pink-collar workers. According to the recent studies the results are
alarming: the fields in question have a particularly high number of long absences due to illness
and disability pensions that have started during the previous three years. With the Covid-19
pandemic, especially women and young wage earners' ability to cope at work has weakened
even more. It is estimated that around 250 employees will participate in the different actions
inside the project.

The broader mission of the project is to promote the well-being and working capacity in the
female-dominated, low-wage industries. At the same time these industries are the ones where
the salaries are lower than in the male dominant industries. In addition, the aim is to cut down
the number of long sick leaves and disability pensions and to support the equality of worklife. These goals are all related and supports the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health
Työ2030 mission.

The mission of the project is supported through the following activities:

I. Enhancing work-wellbeing with “Balance Wellbeing training”
Firstly, the workers and the companies related to the project will be given “Balance Start”
workshops. These workshops or meetings will be the launch of the project and more detailed
information is being given regarding the timeline of the project. Workers are given an opportunity
to participate to a one-year Balance-Wellbeing training program.
II. Enhancing work-wellbeing with work-community and manager level coaching
Secondly, work communities and managers are provided coaching to support the workers and
managers’ work-wellbeing. Different kinds of activities will be provided e.g., how to support
healthy lifestyle habits in the work-community. Managers will be given their own specific
coaching sessions where they will have know-how regarding different management styles such
as servant and humane leadership paradigms and their own work wellbeing will be supported.
III. Enhancing work-wellbeing through society level with Work-Life balance model The results of the project will be spread in other sectors and areas in Finland. The aim is to
support equality and quality of work-life by developing a work-life balance model which can
be utilized in the working environments by workers and managers. The aim of the model is to
give a concrete model to support the workers’ work-wellbeing in the day-to-day settings and to
underline the need for work life balance in order to have a good overall work-wellbeing.

Results
The workers’ and managers’ work-wellbeing is being supported through the activities of the
project and the burnout of workers have been diminished and prevented. Workers have been
giving concrete tools to enhance their own individual and work-community level wellbeing and
managers have the knowhow to utilize servant and humane leadership paradigms in their work.
In addition, a work wellbeing model with a work life balance theme has been developed and the
project has supported more equal and balanced work life.
