DescriptionGenerating data, data transfer technologies and utilizing of collected data in decision-making with the help of automation and Artificial intelligence is one of the fundamental aspects of the Industry 4.0 theme. The development of technology is extremely rapid. Adopting new methods in production, transferring and utilization of collected data is necessary in order for companies' technological know-how and competitiveness to keep up with modern development. Savonia produces knowledge for companies to adopt new technologies and developing intelligent solutions. The new technology know-how of the companies involved in the project develops, and through Savonia's engineering training, the know-how also reaches the business field of the Northern Savo region more widely.

The amount of information produced by machine vision and the required transfer speed place great demands on the transfer techniques. Savonia's 5G network's research environment and know-how enable the management of large amounts of data. Edge computing technology and methods are used for fast data processing. The computing power of cloud servers is used for analyzing large amounts of data and making decisions. Also in the processing of data produced by other sensor technologies, the use of edge computing and cloud servers is part of the project.

During past years official requirements and regulations related to drone operations have increased significantly. The project can support the introduction of licensed drone operations and drone technologies by companies. Successful experiments have been carried out in Savonia in the utilization of modeling based on photogrammetric, thermal camera and LiDAR 3D scanning, e.g. soil, biomass and infrastructures. Savonia has the necessary technical equipment and software in use. Experience of drone technology can be introduced for companies for them to evaluate benefits of drone technology on their perspective. One of the project's goals is to automate the processing of information produced by drone technology and utilize artificial intelligence in accordance with the needs of different industries.

Sensor signals are transferred with modern wired and wireless technologies to a cloud platform for further analysis with artificial intelligence. In addition, edge-computing techniques are utilized for data analysis. The application of advanced control systems in energy production and industrial processes improves the productivity and quality of companies. With the help of fuzzy control methods, the functioning and efficiency of processes is improved and optimized. Intelligent solutions for controlling machines and devices are implemented with neural network and neurofuzzy AI functions. The use of genetic algorithms enables the best and optimal production and economic operation as well as product quality together with neural networks and fuzzy methods. Data security will be taken into account with modern information security methods. The technical solutions of virtual and augmented reality (XR/AR) can be utilized e.g. for training factory or production facility employees. Simulation software can be used to optimize the factory's production flow. PLC programming of production equipment can be designed and tested first with the help of a digital twin.
