| Description | At the early stages of product development, decisions are made that are decisive for the market success of the new product. In the case of machines and equipment, this is realized in the phase of defining the technical target values. Traditionally, the technical superiority and efficiency of the work machine have guided the technical specification. Today, customer value is considered to consist of several dimensions of quality, such as environmental friendliness, recyclability and long service life. According to the modern understanding, generating customer value in customer-supplier cooperation is a very significant competitive factor, which companies, especially successful ones, have taken into account in their business plan. The customer value promise, which is one component of the business plan, is a way of communicating customer value to the market. The challenge is to connect this customer value promise to the setting of technical design goals.
The generally used method of defining target values produces the weightings of technical targets from one point of view, which is not defined in more detail. The determination of technical design goals cannot therefore be viewed from the perspective of the different dimensions of customer value promise and quality. It seems that efficiency is still the guiding factor in the definition of target values for work machines, in which case the customer value promise is not fully realized. The objective of this project is to develop an application based on the industry's best practices, which manages the conceptualization process of a new product, from identifying opportunities to defining design goals, taking modern customer value into account. The concrete output of the project is a new product conceptualization application, which is used to define a) product features and design requirements and their hierarchy, b) the importance and meaning of the features to the customer, c) the importance of the technical design requirements to the customer from the perspective of different quality dimensions and d) design goals from the perspective of the company's business goals. In addition to the application to be developed, the acquisition of new know-how from the following theoretical bases can also be highlighted as an output of the project: product conceptualization processes in industry, the process of defining design goals, and new dimensions of product and service quality. The conceptualization application to be developed supports both the product development carried out in companies and the teaching of product development. The project's publications and application development increase product development know-how, which contributes to the development of companies' new products. The application development work carried out in cooperation with companies further deepens the cooperation between Savonia Koneala and companies. |
